Guide To Diarrhea In Children And Being Admitted Into Paedeatric Ward (Part 2).

Continued..

What to expect when your child is warded:
1. 200ml of salt solution will be injected into your child with 2 10ml syringes.
2. Sambung drip lagi.
3. When your child is warded, the nurse ask you some background questions to fill in a form.
4. She will also give you an orientation. You will be told where the toilets, exits and pantry are, the do's and don'ts, etc.
5. After a few hours, the nurse will draw some more blood to check pH level again.
6. A doctor will come and grill you on you and your husband's medical history, etc.
7. Nurses will come every few hours to check your child's temperature and blood pressure.
8. Doctors check in on patients around 3 times a day or more.
9. If there is a specialist in-house at that time, he/she will do his/her rounds accompanied by the doctor.
10. A gaggle of trainee nurses will come and observe your child guided by a nurse/sister about twice a day.
11. The ward is divided according to the severity of your child's condition. As your child's condition improves, you will be moved to the suitable section in the ward.

Sebaik2nya bila bawa pergi hospital tu terus pack for an overnight stay. Manatau kena tahan kan. I recommend the following:
1. Both you and your child's IC.
1. 5-6 pairs of clothing for your child. Takut nanti anak cirit sampai terkena baju, tidak cukup baju pula untuk salin kan. Campur2 long pants and sweaters with shorts and short-sleeved tops.
2. Lots of diapers. Ditto for the above reason.
3. Flask with hot water and 2 large bottles of drinking water for making milk. My ward had water dispensers in the pantry but even then, it was inconvenient for me to leave Sophie alone to go there.
4. Enough milk for 2 days stay or until the next visiting hours. Biar lebih jangan kurang. Menyesal tau kalau habis susu tengah2 malam.
5. Your child's fave toy. Believe me, it goes a long way in providing comfort to your child.
6. Your own cutlery, cup and plate for meal time. The hospital kasi sedia juga tapi kadang2 tidak cukup.
7. Your own change of clothes.
8. Towels and toilettries for both you and your child.
9. Panty liners. Kalau tidak sempat mandi/tukar baju pun at least tukar panty liner to keep you feel a bit fresh 'down there'.
10. Mouth wash and wet wipe. For when you couldn't afford the luxury of brushing your teeth or washing your face. Believe me, it will make you feel more human.
11. Snacks such as crackers/buns and susu kotak. In case you'd rather starve than eat the hospital food and visiting hours are still a long way to go.

Oh, and don't forget your and your child's IC bila pergi Emergency.

Some important points to remember:
1. Only 1 person can be in the ward to take care of a patient at a time.
2. Visiting hours are from 6.30am-7.30am, 12.30pm-2.30pm and 4.30pm-7.30pm.
3. Jangan la bawa satu kampung bila melawat. Kesian patient lain nanti rasa terganggu. Memang hospital kasi limit the number of visitors pun.
4. Don't hog the loo or bathroom. Tu perangai mau minta kena maki. Most of the time there is only 1 of each for every 4 beds.
5. Don't leave your child unattended especially toddlers. Jatuh dari bed nanti tambah lagi susah. Minta tolong nurse tengo2 kalau bukan waktu melawat.

I think that's about it. I hope this will be helpful to parents AND future parents out there.

Guide To Diarrhea In Children And Being Admitted Into Paedeatric Ward (Part 1).

Hello...

It's been silent here for a few days. The reason for that is because Sophia was admitted into Paediatric Ward due to vomiting and diarrhea. Doctors told me that it is the season. Last week alone 41 kids were warded for diarrhea and vomiting. Maybe sebab banyak tempat banjir, air lebih kotor dari biasa. Huhu..

Hancur hati sy nampak my baby kena ambil darah, kena cucuk jarum drip, etc. Kalau boleh, biarlah sy yang ganti. Sepuluh kali pun sy sanggup, yang penting Sophia sihat wal'afiat and doesn't have to go through that.

Kesian Sophia, traumatised to the max. Tau la budak, tidak faham whats going on kan. Yang dia tau, asal ada orang pakai baju putih datang, there will be pain. So everytime she sees a nurse or attendant passing by she'd get upset.

Eventhough it is hard to watch and bear, I have no regrets insisting that she gets checked and warded. Diarrhea is very dangerous because it causes dehydration which can be fatal for kids 11 years old and below.

In this post I am going to share with you a guide of sorts on what to do if your child start showing symptoms of diarrhea, what to expect when your child is given medical attention, etc. This post will be divided into 2 parts.

A little disclaimer before I go further. This guide is based on my experience with Sophie having diarrhea, in the hospital of my district. Processes and proceedures and what not may differ based on what your child is admitted for, the severity of your child's condition, the facilities available at the hospital in your area, etc. Take this as a rough guide ya. Thanks.

Here are some signs of diarrhea:
1. Passing of watery stools more than 5 times in 1 day. Kalau kurang dari 5 kali, Hospital don't acknowledge it as diarrhea. You won't even get salt for fluid/eletrolyte replenishment.
2. Diarrhea normally occurs whrn your child 'consumed' bacteria through tainted food /drink or lack of hygiene. Hence if your child has diarrhea, it might be accompanied with vomiting.

Signs of dehydration:
1. Sunken eyes.
2. No tears when crying.
3. Muscle cramps.
4. Glassy-eyed.
5. Listlessness.
6. Skin looks papery and dry.

THESE ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SIGNS! SEEK MEDICAL ASSISTANCE IMMEDIATELY!

What to do if your child starts passing watery stools:
1. Buy salt for fluid replenishment at the pharmacy.
2. Bagi anak minum fluids banyak2 tidak kira air masak, air garam, susu or juice. FLUIDS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN FOODS when it comes to diarrhea.

Kalau anak tidak mau minum walaupun dipujuk/rayu/paksa, cukup quota 5 kali berak air terus bawa ke hospital. Insist anak kena check darah for pH level. They will be able to tell tu if your child is low on fluids.

Stand your ground if the doctor want to send you home with salts saja. Inform that you have given/have tried to give tapi anak tidak receptive. Itu lah gunanya kamu beli salts di pharmacy when anak start berak air. Supaya hospital tidak boleh guna alasan ni untuk send you home macam tu saja.

Bukan apa, buang masa bah kalau anak tidak receptive then terpaksa bawa balik pergi hospital. Kalau tinggal dekat dengan hospital dan ada kereta tidak apa la. Yang penting memang betul sudah usaha bagi anak salt solution tu. Jangan tipu pula. Ketulahan nanti.

What happens if your child needs immediate medical attention:
1. A nurse will draw blood from one hand to check your child's pH levels.
2. A needle for drip will be inserted into your child's other hand and a shot of salt solution will be injected.
3. Your child will be given a drip.
4. If your child's blood test shows that her/his fluid levels are sufficient and stabilised, most probably you will be able to go home.
5. If not, then your child will be warded.

To be continued...

Phy

Recipe: Toasted Mushrooms.

Hello there!

Today's post is going to be a recipe that I made by 'accident' and have fallen in love with. I said I made it by accident because I had prepared the mushrooms and intended to sautee them for dinner. Unfortunately, (or rather, fortunately) we were having issues with our gas stove so I had to find another method of cooking for the mushrooms and so this dish came about. Let's get started shall we?

Ingredients:
5 medium sized Shiitake mushrooms, sliced.
1 clove of garlic, minced.
A little bit of unsalted butter (I typically use just a sliver)
Salt and black pepper.

Other items:
Foil
Toaster oven.

Method:
1. Line the toaster tray with foil.
2. Arrange the mushrooms evenly on the tray and sprinkle the minced garlic over them.
3. Strategically place dabs of butter all over the mushrooms so that when the butter melts, it would seep and reach every mushroom slice.
4. Turn the timer dial to 5.
5. When the mushrooms are cooked, sprinkle with a bit of salt and black pepper.
6. Mushrooms are done and ready to be served.

Serves 1.

Note:
1. My toaster oven is an old one, over 20 years old! Hence, it may differ from modern day toaster ovens. With mine, I can only control the timer but not the temperature. If your toaster oven enables you to determine the temperature, just choose a lower heat setting and keep an eye on the mushrooms. They don't take long to cook. When they start to brown, they should be ready.

2. Pakai oven pun boleh, tapi jadi la 'Baked Mushrooms instead of 'Toasted Mushrooms'. No hal mah, yang penting the finished product menjadi kan? ^^

3. You can use salted butter, just be careful of how much salt you season it with at the end.

I made some today but since I only had 2 small mushrooms, I just added them to the egg noodles I cooked instead of making them as a dish by themselves.

I hope you give this dish a try. It's so easy and tasty. Till the next post, toodles!

What Does Sashimi, Rose Tea and Belacan Have In Common?

Hello there,

Recently, I had the opportunity to see how my place of work prepares for a VVIP stay for the first time. This Dato' X ada la request a few items and let me tell you, we worked hard to make it available. Sambil2 kerja tu terus terimagine ni, macam mana la kehidupan orang VVIP ni ah? Mesti best kan, travel p mana2 blh guna helly/jet, tinggal hotel dapat special treatment, etc.

Terus imagine lagi, if I am a VVIP staying at a hotel, what would I request for ya? (Perlu meh minta2 baru ada gaya VVIP? Ish ko ni Phy) Last2 I came up with this list:

1. Anchor butter (unsalted please), honey and plain soft rolls. Sedap gila tahap 13.
2. Salmon sashimi (Tengo tempat la kan. Kalo d KK tu logic lagi. Kalo minta Salmon sashimi di Keningau memang mo minta kena maki).
3. Rose tea (Ditto. Kali KK pun tiada ni benda).
4. Shelled Pistacchio nuts (Ni pun mo minta kena tampar punya request).
5. Sambal belacan from Papar (Cheh, no 1 sampai 4 macam high-class, tiba2 keluar cerita belacan).
6. Rose scent spritzed in the room.
7. Calming music to be played (You know the ones used for meditating yang ada bunyi air terjun, burung2 berkicau dengan ayu, etc).

Pretty simple right? Nowhere close to 7 dulang jantung nyamuk or anything like that (Shame on you Puteri Gunung Ledang). Best juga fikir ni benda. It made me evaluate apa yang sy suka, tidak suka, etc. You guys should try it, it's fun.

So tell me, if you are a VVIP what would your requests be?

Review: Pixy's Gentle & Moist Cleansing Lotion

Hello there,
Recently, I noticed that there was a big hoo ha going on in the local beauty community regarding Pixy's Gentle & Moist Cleansing Lotion. Curious, I decided to pick it up and try for myself.

There are 2 sizes available which are 50ml at RM7.00++ and 100ml at RM13.00++. Since Watsons were all out of the former, I took a leap of faith and got the 100ml bottle.

This product claims to be alcohol-free and contains honey for moisturising the skin. It combines makeup removal as well as toning action and is 100% water-based formula.

I'll be honest, I didn't expect much from this product initially. However, after using it for the past week I have fallen absolutely and utterly in love with it. Here's why:

01. It removes my makeup completely, even my utterly stubborn waterproof mascara.

02. I don't need to use a lot of force to remove my makeup. Gentle motions are enough to do so. No more pulling and tugging at my poor skin!

03. It doesn't sting my eyes at all nor did it irritate my skin.

04. It doesn't leave an icky sticky residue. My skin feels soft and refreshed as well as moisturised.

05. It doesn't contain alcohol and contains honey which is oh-so-good for our skin.

06. Since it's water-based, it doesnt leave oil spots where I use it to correct my makeup mistakes.

07. It's affordable, need I say more?

Here is a demo of the product through photos:

Super heavy makeup for experiment purposes.

One swipe...

.. and it's 90% gone!

To remove face makeup you will need to go over your face a couple of times especially if you used heavy face makeup but that's pretty standard. This lotion cleanser has certainly become my utter bestie during owl shift at work. It's easy to use and I don't need to leave the counter to go and wash my face. I definitely recommend this product to everyone. Go out and get it ASAP! (^-^)

First 2014 KK Trip

Hello there,

Whenever I go to KK, my stops are always the same. Tempat wajib? Suria Sabah and 1Borneo Hypermall. Yes, very predictable. The stops pun pretty much the same. MAC Cosmetics (1Borneo), Sasa, Starbucks, Sushi Tei (Suria Sabah) and a recent one, The Face Shop, are must-visit spots for us. This trips however, ada sikit kelainan. Sikit jak la, nda banyak.

For one thing I tried Tosai for the first time. It was also a first dining experience at the shop itself, which is CS Curry house, located at Tg Aru Plaza.

Notice the 2 bekas on the table? Such a signature for authentic curry house eateries. That's where they put the dhal and curry. All of us ordered Tosai, me and my aunt plain ones whereas my sister had the onion and egg one. Drink wise we ordered Teh Tarik Masala, Teh Tarik Madra, and plain old tea. Only tea would do it seems when eating Indian food. Hehe..

Another difference this visit is that since, ahem, losing a bit of weight, I have been able to try on some clothes at Voir. Teringat pula zaman2 keja di Putrajaya dulu. Selalu try baju di Nichii. Try sampai 15 pasang baju tapi beli 1 jak. Miahahahaha... Jahatkan? Kadang2 beli juga bah sampai 3. Ah, the good old days. Among the pics in the changing room:

In the end for this trip I just bought a blazer (that was insanely expensive but fit so well and so comfortably that I just had to have it) and 2 pairs of Applemint jeans that were on sale for RM19.00. Branded jeans on massive discounts with my size available? Totally unheard of for me. Really felt like I hit the Jackpot with those finds.

Kelainan yang lain lagi was at Sushi Tei. Normally I would order my fave dishes by default. This time most of the dishes were new to me and I was glad to discover new favourites.

Delicious Salmon Sashimi. So fresh and buttery.

Kaki Mentai Mayo Roll.

This has deep fried oyster in it and while it is tasty, I don't recommend having this on a date, most especially on the first one. There is simply no way to eat this with your dignity intact. Try it and you will know why. Hehe..

Seafood Gyoza. Okay la but won't be ordering it again.

Last but not least, I present to you, my new fave dish with to-die-for status...

Crispy Ebi Mentai Mayo!

Words can't describe how delicious this is. Prawns and mushroom deep-fried together then topped with cod roe and baked to perfection. Well worth it's price of RM13.80.

Last but not least, we went to Starbucks and I planned on getting their Seasonal Beverage yang Pepermint Mocha. Unfortunately the outlet where we went was out of Peppermint syrup so I had to be content with the Toffee Latte.

How cute is that smiley?

So yeah, that sums up my KK trip for this time with it's differences from the past year. We did go to Sasa but will do that in a separate post insyaAllah. Will also post the outfits I bought on a different social media platform, most probably Instagram, so don't forget to follow me @phylliciarobert.
See you again soon. Toodles!

Phy Says: How Awesome Would It Be If Everyone Were Doing Their Dream Job?

Hello hello...

The past few weeks me and my sisters had been discussing what our dream jobs are. One would like to be an online retailer. Another wants to be a travel blogger. Then there's me, who wants to be a successful lifestyle blogger who is officially part of the Media, both in the local scene and who knows, one day in the International scene. (Ewah, ewah.. panjang pulak yer my dream job. Lol).

During my KK trip recently, I met a cousin of mine who would like to work by serving the community. It hit me really hard then and there just how diverse people's passions can be. What rocks your boat might sent another person run screaming in the other direction and vice versa.

The vast majority of us do our jobs because we need the money and we just grab whatever job we could get our hands on or because it was deemed 'good for us'. For example, we become nurses because we want to work as a Government Servant (Good pay, safe and secure), we become English teachers because there is a huge demand for it (Can do tuition in the side and get extra income even after pension) or we work as a banker because that's what we were offered.

However, when we do that, more often than not we feel discontent, unhappy, even miserable. Imagine Julio Inglesias or Adele working a 9 to 5 desk jobs. Or Charice still stuck in the Philiphines singing in night clubs.Yes, that's how miserable life could get.

Thing is, God created us all and instilled different talents and dreams in us. I am sure there are people out there whose dream job is to be a teacher, and there are those who would love nothing more than being a nurse. If everyone could follow their dreams, I am sure every work position would be filled by happy and motivated people. Surely the world would be a better place.

How awesome would it be if you are doing your dream job?

Love,
Phy

End Of The year Recap: Happy, Happy, Happy New Yeaaaarrrrr!!!!

Happy New Year peeps!

Omaigod, I miss this blog sooo much! Sebenarnya lama sudah bah sy mo update ni blog but I just switched jobs and it is uber challenging. The past month has been spent trying to learn the ropes and I had to literally do it all on my own with lots of trial and errors.

Satu lagi sebab kenapa I haven't updated this blog is because I had promised in my previous post that I would be posting about my KK beauty haul and makeup switch ups. I had wanted to fulfil that promise dulu bah sebenarnya sebelum posting about other things tapi I whenever I come back from work I am always exhausted physically and mentally. Sampai no mood to do anything than watch tv because that requires the least effort to do. Hence, tertangguh2 la my blog update sampai last2 tidak pun tepost pasal tu haul and makeup switch up.

In the end, I just said "Persyaitonkan itu semua", and did this post because c'mon la, berapa haribulan sudah ni kan? So let's get into the my summary of 2013.

1. Lost A Job
I was forced to resign from my job at a 5-star hotel due to office bullying. It was such a heartbreaking experience for me. Don't really want to get into too much detail into this one.

2. Sophie's Birthday Party
We celebrated Sophie's 1st birthday party and it was my 1st time hosting a party. I was so out of my element but we had a great time anyways.

3. Was Unemployed For 8 Months
Oh my, this was the most bitter pill to swallow. Yang best tu lenggang la, free time banyak. Tapi duit yang tiada. While everyone else is going on holidays and buying the latest gadget, I was cringing when my basic necessities ran out. When you have financial commitments lagi, being unemployed is the absolute worst position to be in.

4. My Cousin Got Married
My cousin got married and paid for me and my family to stay at the hotel of their reception for 2 nights. Thank you cousin! I really liked a lot of the elements that they did for their reception. Kalo ada rezeki dan jodoh, maybe ada la ambil inspirasi dari their wedding ni. Hehe..

5. Experienced Working Overnight Shift
I experienced working overnight shift and did so for almost a month. I hope that I never have to do it again. Teruk eh. No life ni. Siang tido, malam bangun macam vampire. Sudah la memang tidak minat menda Twilight, vampire apa semua. Megunsamang jak. Huhu..

6. Got My Current Job
Actually kan, my current job ni I applied since April lagi bah tapi bulan October baru kena call in for an interview. I have no experience whatsoever in this field and the areas of my responsibility lagi memang luas. Sometimes I feel like I have been thrown into a 12-feet deep pool sedangkan sy baru pandai floating. Apapun, I am here and still standing (albeit, barely). Pray that I will be able to learn the ropes of my job affectively and ASAP ya. Thanks.

7. Lost Weight
I finally lost some weight. Granted it is 4Kgs, tidak la banyak sangat. When I first started my current job, I was already eating less and exercising by jogging everyday. Tambah lagi dengan kerja yang banyak berjalan, I lost 3Kgs in 2 weeks. I continued to lose the weight despite taking a hiatus from running due to ankle discomfort. Initially I thought that it was because I have reduced my intake of 3-in-1 beverages but my sister said that it could be due to work-related stress. Entah la.. Yang penting, sy boleh muat jeans lama. Hehe..

So there you have it, my summary of the year 2013. I have yet to make New Year resolutions this year. Not sure if I will. The only thing on my mind as of now is togo beyond.Go beyond mysels and what I think I can do.

How about you, what's your New Year resolutions?

Love,
Phy
